Rule UI overhaul


Some of the most frequent feedback we got during the game jam was that the rules UI was confusing, and that the pattern picker was too small to click comfortably.

We’ve since decided to overhaul the entire rules UI, and this is the first look at the WIP version, so any and all feedback is welcome!

Gone is the color cycling, and the tiny pattern picker. They’ve been replaced with color and pattern “runes” which can be dragged and dropped into the appropriate slots. Hovering over the Shifters now also allows for a peek into their next state, and how their neighbors fit the selected pattern.

Currently all the tutorials still refer to the old UI, but the gameplay loop remains the same, so they can still be used to learn the mechanics.

Seems bugged, I'm unable to drag the target color onto the empty box (it does nothing). Using Chrome

Not a bug, per se, but changing the color to the same one doesn’t make sense so it’s disallowed. However, I’ve left that very unclear, and for now I’ve added a sound effect that indicates the action is invalid while we work on proper UI animations, hints, and tutorials. Thank you for your feedback!
